What Kind of Hoodia Is In Your Pill?

November 19, 2008

A CNN article talks about which diets may or may not show promise, Hoodia is listed in the not so promising category according to this source. They speak about irresistible sales slogans for products that allude to results that may be quick or easy, but say the key to healthy weight loss is really down to lifestyle change.

There is a reference to one study that had people eating 1,000 less calories in a day, this all due to an intake of the appetite suppressing South African plant Hoodia Gordonii. But Health Advisory Board member David Heber, M.D., Ph.D. an expert from the University of California indicates the type of Hoodia in this study is not really available to the market currently, it has a global patent by the British pharmaceutical company Phytopharm. Therefore, he believes products you find today online or in stores likely contain Hoodia from other sources, and these may be safe but they also may not work at all. According to Phytopharm, it may be years before they have a Hoodia Gordonii product ready for sale.
